For the summer of 2021 we are seeing the shame of car rental prices.
Many of our readers have reported serious price anomalies to us, and we have made our own market survey.
Unfortunately, our readers are right. What’s going on? Very simple.
The major car companies, those that in past years rented cars for 50/60 € a day (and it was already a high price), in July and August increased the costs of car rentals for no reason to 100-110 € a day, in some cases without insurance, for small cars.
This is a shame that must be denounced and stigmatized.
It is indecent that tourists have to suffer such prices.
We tried to talk to some car rentals, asking the reasons for this price increase.
They replied with motivations that are really not very credible: “they sent us a few cars from peninsular Spain” (sorry you had two months to procure cars because haven’t you?).
The consequences of this shameful increase price will soon be felt: some of our readers have told us that they will not come to the island also because they do not intend to spend these amounts to rent a car.
It would be good for many people to remember that Ibiza without nightclubs, or with reduced-speed nightclubs, does not have the same appeal as Ibiza with its unique universe of fun. There are also beautiful beaches in Sardinia, Salento, Greece and Croatia, and the prices are much more acceptable.
And this car rental pricing policy seriously damages the island’s tourism.
We would like also to know the opinion of the competent Balearic institutions on this point.
We hope that local authorities will intervene to curb this unjustified speculation on prices. In the meantime, we suggest you try to rent the car perhaps from “independent” car rental (a suggestion: pay attention, however, to the type of insurance they provide and inquire well about the costs of the economic deposit to avoid nasty surprises).
In any case we will update you, even if we must once again note that often those who damage tourism in ibiza are in ibiza.
