Ibiza By Night meets Jose Maria Ramon (in the pictures below), Dj, producer & Programming head of Ibiza Global Radio.
Josè will be protagonist Tantra Ibiza on Tuesday 30th July in the MUSIC PLEASE event series, and the interview was an opportunity to talk about music, and, of course, of Ibiza 2019.
IBN: Jose Maria tell us more about the upcoming show at Tantra Ibiza?
Jose Maria: “It is the first time that I am going to play in Tantra Ibiza and it makes me especially excited, even more so if it is accompanied by these great artists, I hope to see people who really love music.“
IBN: Ibiza 2019, how’s going the season for you?
Jose Maria:“The truth is that it is one of the worst seasons I remember in years, too many sound cuts “only for some”, little or no work for resident DJs, very dirty people messing everything up, the same rotating dj names going through all the clubs and the invasion of the reggaeton, we thought that this musical style would never enter the island of electronic music culture. I can add the exorbitant housing prices, here nobody can come to work and pay a rent for a place to live during the summer.“
IBN: You have worked in Ibiza since 31 years: the last two years were difficult for the island. What is your opinion on this and what is being done to improve it?
Jose Maria:”I was born on the island, I have been playing the last 31 years, I started playing Rockabilly vinyl, from there I went to Techno, Trance, Goa Trance and then I started to investigate house music, which is in the style I am now in. I have seen the birth of the electronic scene, I have lived it in its maximum splendor in the 90s and now I am understanding that it may be reaching its decline, the new generations are growing with mainstream or Reggaeton, just go around and see the posters of The clubs says it all.“
IBN: Jose Maria Ramon & Ibiza Global Radio: the secret success of the morning sound?!
Jose Maria:”It is not an easy task, to find the right music so that you feel good, at work, in the car, at home or walking around. That’s my job, search, explore the perfect tracks for your mornings.”
IBN: What are your upcoming projects for next few months?
Jose Maria: “It is the 15th Anniversary of Ibiza Global Radio, therefore the next few months we have a lot of work in the station.
This summer I am a resident at Sunday Cooling Ibiza in EL PATIO which is a miracle for a resident DJ, having a job on the island, since our beloved Space Ibiza closed, has been left aside. Some releases and musical collaborations are coming too.“
IBN: Who’s been the biggest inspirational figure in your career to date?
Jose Maria:“It’s a difficult question, I’ve never copied anyone’s music, I’ve always defined my own style, even when they ask me -What is your favorite DJ? I have no favorite. I make my way without looking at what others do.“
IBN: Name one track you’ll be looking to play at the MUSIC PLEASE show on Tuesday 30th!
Jose Maria:“I hope to play very groovy from NuDisco or Disco House to the newest House Music so that people do not stop moving their asses, one of the tracks that I will surely play is that of Bas Roos – About The Rhythm“.
