Ibiza By Night met Behrouz, an artist that we truly appreciate and that has a long history in the White Island…
IBN: Behrouz & Ibiza: what is your relationship with the island?
Behrouz: I’ve been coming to the island since the late 90’s.. I grew up in a little hippy town in California called Santa Cruz, which is close to San Francisco. When I came to Ibiza in the late 90’s, I discovered the hippy movement that came to Ibiza from the 60’s, it was started from a group of hippies that came from Santa Cruz and San Francsico. So, I instantly fell in love with Ibiza. I knew it would become a big part of my life and since then I have been coming every year. I have had residencies at Pacha, DC-10, Amnesia, Space and now Heart (and have played at almost all the clubs here over the years).
IBN: How’s season 2019 going for you? How does it compare with previous years? Do you think Ibiza has changed for better / worse?
Behrouz: So far 2019 has been an amazing year for me here in Ibiza. I’m doin our Do Not Sit At Heart show once a month, which allows me to play at other clubs and places here on the island. I played at Woomoon this year, closing the main stage which was super nice, I played at Rumors at Las Dalias for my good friend Guy Gerber, I played at Zoo Project which was amazing and I did a private event which people are saying has been the best party in Ibiza so far this summer, with Dixon and Anstacia. Compared to previous years, if we look at last year, we had the World Cup which affected the island badly. I think this year it’s much better and positive. I think the island is constantly evolving due to what is going on around the world. Someone which Ibiza, it balances itself out and I try to be optimistic about things.. Nothig compares to the magic of Ibiza!
IBN: Most artists have at least one special “story” that happened to him in Ibiza… please tell us yours…
Behrouz: Wow, I have many but one year at Space when I was playing with Deep Dish in the main room. Laurent Garnier was playing outside. I went to go listen to Laurent and when I started, I kind of took the vibe that he had outside and brought it into our main room and the next thing I know, everyone was in the main room dancing, including Laurent Garnier. So for me this was a special moment to have a legend like Laurent before me and dancing to my music.
IBN: Tell us about your most recent release, ‘Honey On My Lips’
Behrouz: This is a special record I did with a young, talented artist, Squire on my label Do Not Sit ON The Furniture Recordings. We worked on putting something together that putting the new world and old world together and coming up with something interesting. I’m very happy to hear that Luciano just signed our track for his new Ibiza compilation, which is amazing.
IBN:What future projects should we know about?
Behrouz: Have lots of great things. The Do Not Sit On The Furniture brand and showcases are doing great. We are doing our own stage this year at the Tomorrowland Festival on July 26th and doing a big production for this. I’m looking forward to playing at MOGA Festival which takes place Oct 11-13th at a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Game of Thrones filming location in Essaouira, Morocco; plus Luke Skywalker’s ‘home’ in Tunisia for Les Dunes Electroniques Festival in September. Hopefully after summer I’m working on a bunch of great music projects in the studio with collaborations and myself so it’s been and going to continue to be a great year for me.
Thanks Behrouz!
