Ibiza by night meets John Acquaviva, that will be protagonist of several sessions on the white island.
Music and film producer, leader in technological innovation, and DJ—John Acquaviva (in the pictures below) is undoubtedly a modern renaissance man. From contributing to such industry breakthroughs as Final Scratch and Beatport, to establishing one of the highest respected techno labels, Plus8, with Richie Hawtin, Acquaviva is never idle.
On top of that, the Italian-born, Canadian-based artist recently executive produced the rousing psycho-thriller, The Red Man, which dives into the twisted psyche of a famous DJ. All the while, Acquaviva has his hand in Plus8 Equity Partners, where he teams up with new technology companies, supporting their emergence into the music industry.
Currently in the thick of his summer tour, Acquaviva will soon be landing in Ibiza to make his debut appearance at Marco Carola’s Music On showcase at Amnesia.
Ibiza By Night caught up with Acquaviva just before the show to ask a few questions.
IBN: You’re headlining Marco Carola’s Music On showcase at Amnesia in Ibiza on August 18. Tell us a bit about your relationship with Carola—what similarities do the two of your share, personally and/or professionally?
Acquaviva: “First and foremost we are connected by the love of music and club culture. I have known Marco for ages and we have both had twists and turns in our careers given the amount of time we have been on the world stage. It is a real pleasure for me to do my first Music On with him on August 18.”
IBN: Ibiza is highly-regarded as one of the top destinations for live electronic music. For those who haven’t been to Ibiza, how would pitch the island as a place worth visiting?
Acquaviva:”It is the pinnacle of clubbing, a great confluence of people and sounds. It is for many people the Las Vegas of our World. For others it is a corner of the world we all need to escape to for those special moments for clubbing or also simply tranquility.”
IBN: Describe a memorable moment from your first experience in Ibiza.
Acquaviva:”Mine was coming to the Q club early 90’s which is now privilege, when it was a swimming pool turned into an oasis. Already a few thousand people the night I played and it was the most enchanting island club experience I had had to date.”
IBN: You’re currently on tour for the summer. Other than Amnesia, what are two tour stops that you’re particularly excited for and why?
Acquaviva:”It’s clear that the night with Marco is top on my list. However, Burn Festival in Turkey which I just played is high on my list, as well as going to the village I was born in Puglia to celebrate a town festival on August 12 called Wild Fest.”
IBN: After executive producing The Red Man, are you interested in being involved in more films? What is something unique about the film industry that would draw you back?
Acquaviva: “All my music matters come first, however, I am very interested and open to doing more films. For me, it is always people than their story or project that gets me curious and want to dig deeper. I have met many incredible people in the film business and will surely join & start something new.”
IBN: Have you ever considered scoring a film?
Acquaviva: “Yes, I have done a few pieces for films but a whole film would be quite interesting. I am always open to things.”
IBN: Tell us about something Plus8 Equity Partners is working on that you’re excited about.
Acquaviva: “It’s about keeping our ear to the ground and finding what new ideas and products people have to make the music world better. So really a combination of being open to finding and investing in the new generation of people and ideas to keep our scene moving forward.”
IBN: You seem to always have something going on. Where do you find those relaxed, peaceful moments in life?
Acquaviva: “I like to stay involved and busy, but it is those little moments where you pause and enjoy a dinner or sunrise or sunset, with the people around you. Simple moments and simple pleasures are always there everyday in-between that intensity.”
Thanks John!
